Roswell Georgia History The fine City of Roswell Georgia is located on the northern banks of the Chattahoochee River. Before it was a gem in the Atlanta Real Estate region, it has an interesting history. The Cherokee Indians once settled this are and called it the "Enchanted Land". Whites were banned from settling on Cherokee land, but those laws were frequently ignored. As like anywhere else, Roswell's history with the Indians was not much different. In 1828, when gold was found in Dahlonega, there was a large amount of settlers making the journey to North Georgia. A man by the name of Roswell King, also made the trek on horseback. Mr King discovered beautiful forests and creeks. He envisioned placing a mill that could be powered by water on the Chattahoochee River. In 1838 he built the areas first cotton mill. After that a Flouring mill was added. Cloth, tenting, and rope were all products that were made in Roswell at that time. As the business grew Mr. King began offering home sites to his family and friends in the area. Thus, residential Roswell Real Estate was born. The civil war destroyed the mills, but not the magnificent homes and churches. The mills were eventually rebuilt, and a strong part of Roswell's economy, until around 1975. Today, Roswell boasts a strong Real Estate Market, as it has become a great place to live for Atlanta commuters. For more information please visit the City of Roswell Official Website
